MARGARET ENGLAND, Visual Artist

Margaret England is a visual artist based in Sydney, Australia. A true "Gleaner", Margaret brings together human and natural processes, a symbol of the man-made fallen victim of the patina of nature, now a relic of a time past. More than presentations of found objects, England’s works display an amazing complexity of ideas combined through a playful, creative and intellectual process. Her abilities at lateral thinking and the juxtaposition of select subjects and ideas, stimulate thought processes and delight any viewers who encounter her work – a dynamic combination of observation and intuition.

Margaret currently lives and works in Sydney, having relocated a few years ago from Albury Wodonga, where she had been for many years (and she continues to be) very active in the Arts communities. There, and in North East Victoria regional towns of Beechworth and Wangaratta, she has held four solo exhibitions and participated in countless group exhibitions. She completed a Masters of Arts Practice at Charles Sturt University (Wagga Wagga) and has taught Visual Arts at Riverina TAFE Albury.

More recently she also acted as tour host / instructor on an arts and culture expedition to Morocco

In her studio space in Redfern, Margaret has been concentrating in creating new mixed media (found objects) assemblages, a practice which has always been central in the diverse body of works she has presented over the years. Her work is the culmination of possibly many years of eclectic collecting, many months of intricate conceiving, and many many days of long hours of delicate assembling.
